Doraisamy began his career as an artist soon after he left his alma mater Cathedral College in Colombo, Sri Lanka. He studied landscape painting and oriental art under his guru T.C.M. Silva, later focusing on creating commercial art with Reggie Candappa and G.S. Fernando. Doraisamy went on to explore commercial art working for the Times of Ceylon Newspaper Group in the early 1900s. His paintings are exquisite with their brushstrokes and intricate detailing which mostly highlight landscapes and scenery. The painting “Procession”, for example, details a traditional procession at a Hindu temple in Sri Lanka. While the persons participating in the event are given importance, he emphasizes the presence of tradition more, with the detailing of the cart carrying the statue of a Hindu God. The silhouettes of the participants in the procession contribute towards highlighting the devoutness. “The Kiss” is one of his award-winning pieces that present the profiles of two lovers engaged in a passionate kiss. While the two figures are defined by sharp brushstrokes, Doraisamy shows their emotions through the different colours that bring them together. During his time, he exhibited locally, as well as overseas in various exhibitions in New Delhi and Madras in India.
